Asbestos mining opponents worldwide have attempted many times to persuade Canada to stop mining asbestos, which was later exported to third world countries where the material is still widely used in the construction of houses and other structures.
Over the years, the World Health Organization (WHO) have come together to include asbestos at the UN Treaty known as the Rotterdam Convention, which would force Canada to warn the countries buying them with health problems the asbestos minerals, which can cause cancer known as mesothelioma. Canada has continuously fought this move and has so far been unsuccessful.
